Over 500 people attended this
unique fundraising event held to benefit
the Cypress Springs Mercedarian
Prayer Center. This one-of-a-kind
event, sponsored by The Sister Dulce
Foundation and Chef John Folse was
held on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the
Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baton Rouge.
Original plans had this event taking
place on the grounds of White Oak
Plantation; however, when Thursday’s
forecast for that weekend was projected
as a weekend of torrential rains and
heavy winds, the events was moved.
Knowing that the venue had to accommodate ten (10) chefs all
preparing different meals and seat over 500 people for dinner,
you can image that the choices were limited. Thankfully and by
the grace of God, the Crowne Plaza Hotel was not only open for
availability but they also worked diligently with us to make this
transition as smooth as possible.
Even with the last minute venue change, this event was
a huge success. Chef John Folse invited 6 nationally known
chefs and 4 Louisiana chefs (including himself ) to come to
Baton Rouge and be partnered with some of Louisiana’s finest
florists and designers. Together, they created an atmosphere of
exceptional beauty; from the presentation of the food at the table
to the floral designs which reflected the beauty of springtime and
Louisiana’s unique foliage.
The evening included spiritual and faith strengthening
testimonials. The first by Andre & Angelle Bourgeois who
shared their journey of faith as their second child who suffered
from a rare, congenital heart defect at birth, was not expected
to live (their story is included in this
newsletter). The second testimonial
was by one of our visiting chefs, Matt
Murphy. Matt, who participated in our
first Dining by Design event last year,
was stricken with a staph infection, went
into a coma and was not expected to live.
But through the intercession of Sister
Dulce, many, many prayers, and the
guided hands of his doctors, Matt not
only recovered from his illness, but he
again participated in this year’s Dining
by Design event.
This event, although a fundraiser for
the Cypress Springs Mercedarian Prayer Center, brings people
together with a common goal. We all love the Lord and we want
others to understand and recognize the many blessings that God
has bestowed upon us. It is a wonderful event and a wonderful
opportunity to be with friends and family and see the goodness
of God at work.
