Did you know...
Did You Know that the Lenten Season is a special
season that the Church gives us as a personal retreat where
we can grow in faith and look at those areas in our life that
keep us separated from Christ?
When we think of Lent, we may unconsciously think
of it as a time of 40 days of dreary, cloudy, self-sacrificing
misery. Many of us think of it as a time to “give up”
something.
If this is you, I want to suggest something a little
differently. I would ask you to think about something
that you could do to help yourself grow in your faith.
Sometimes that may mean giving up something, but most
of the time it means doing more. For example, you may
decide that now is a good time to look at your prayer life.
This change for Lent could be as
simple as: saying one Hail Mary
a day for the Souls in Purgatory;
spending time in adoration;
gathering as a family in prayer at
the end of each day; or, finding
the time to just sit and meditate
quietly. You may want to deepen
your faith in other ways. In an
effort to find Christ in everyone
we meet – consider offering a
compliment each day to someone. It is a time to look at
our habits and decide which bring us closer to God and
which inhibits us from that personal relationship with Our
Father.
This is the time to say “Where will I be when Easter
arrives?” and “Am I going to be closer to God?” During
this Lenten Season, let’s make a habit of thanking God
for our lives every day. We must become a people of
thanksgiving. St. Paul tells us “Rejoice in the Lord
always, I shall say it again: rejoice.” Philippians 4:4 If
we are not doing that, now is a good time to start. For if
we can rejoice with the Lord during this Lenten Season,
think how much more we can rejoice with Him on Easter
morning!
