The word “evangelism” comes from the
Greekword “euangelizomai,”which literally
means “to bring Good News.” The whole
premise of evangelism is not to convince
someone about right or wrong beliefs, but
about sharing with others the Good News (in
this case not just any good news in general
but the specific Good News about who Jesus
is and what He has done). Jesus does not
command us to be His lawyers, but instead
His witnesses (Acts 1:8). Witnesses don’t
have to convince, just tell what they have
experienced in Christ (1 John 1:1-4). This is
what it truly means to “be witnesses” or “to
evangelize.”
