A Passionate Walk With Christ
It was a gloomy night one Friday in February and the weather
threatened. Actually, the weather had been stormy and rainy for
two days prior to The Passionate Walk With Christ. We shouldn’t
have been surprised since we were revisiting the Stations of the Cross
-
Our Lord’s walk to Calvary. And in remembering Our Lord’s
passion, rolling thunder, lightning and power outages were very
fitting and appropriate for this personal exchange of testimonies, an
exchange from some very courageous people who shared the cross
they carried as it related to a particular station.
Station 1
-
(
Jesus is Condemned to Death)
Mindy Bourgeois shared
her feeling of abandonment when her spiritual life grew and she
began to walk with the Lord after her diagnosis of MS
Station 2
-
(
Jesus Takes Up His Cross)
Tony Cockerham told us about
his cross of CMT, a neurological disease that affected his business,
his family and his charity work.
Station 3
-
(
Jesus Falls the First Time)
Angie Ray described how she
fell under the weight of the cross of breast cancer but how her faith
and family has seen her through a most difficult time.
Station 4
-
(
Jesus Meets His Mother)
Danielle Hollier spoke of
her painful journey of losing a child, walking away from God for
awhile and then experiencing the healing power of Our Lord - both
physically & spiritually.
Station 5
-
(
Simon of Cyrene Helps Jesus Carry His Cross)
Johnny
Dunaway reflected on how he became a “Simon” when he was called
upon to share his faith with many, but especially the young adults
and confirmation candidates at his church parish.
Station 6
-
(
Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus)
Shalane Crick, like
Veronica, explained how she feels called to be courageous and led
by the Spirit to tell others about the constant love and ever-present
support the Lord has for us.
Station 7
-
(
Jesus Falls the Second Time)
Katey Slaughter Sims walked
us through her spiritual falls. The first was the inability to carry
a child to term and the second was learning the child she finally
carried to term had a very serious heart condition.
Station 8
-
(
Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem)
Staci Gulino shared
her views on how the women of today should reflect on the steadfast
faith of the Women of Jerusalem and look to them for guidance in
living our faith each day of our lives.
Station 9
-
(
Jesus Falls the Third Time)
Jason Fontenot’s riveting
testimony of how his life and his three falls for the past three years
has taught him the strength the Lord had to get up and keep going
was so emotional that everyone in attendance could feel his pain,
heartbreak and finally the his strength to carry on.
Station 10
-
(
Jesus is Stripped of His Garments)
Glen Gulino (for
a young man discerning priesthood who could not be with us the
night of the event) read a testimony of completely opening yourself
to the Lord even though you may fear what “Papa” may think when
He sees you most vulnerable.
